Eagle Medallion

Eagle Medallion

Our study quilt is based on the Eagle Medallion (c. 1840-1865) cover quilt from Quilts and Quiltmakers Covering Connecticut. The original quilt was approximately 76” square. In order to meet the study requirements of a maximum 200″ circumference, our first challenge was to reduce the amount of diamond rounds. Finding fabrics for the eagles, reducing the size of the appliqués to provide an overall balance, and trying to attain the correct light / dark fabrics for the star were also challenging.

Danbury Scott Fanton Museum and Historical Society, owner of the original quilt, was thrilled that the quilt was going to be reproduced. Brigid Guertin, Executive Director said, “We love this quilt. By reproducing the quilt for the AQSG Study, more people will see what a truly wonderful quilt it is.”

This is our second AQSG Study quilt and since we are both Connecticut Yankees we once again have chosen a quilt that originated from our state. This study has proved to be as much fun as the first time and we recommend the team process to everyone.
