The star “blocks” were purchased many years ago in New England. I have been saving these gems for a special occasion. Forty-two of the little pieces circa 1875 were used in this wall hanging. Each one is different.
The setting is similar to other old quilts from this time period.
The star blocks are checker-boarded with antique fabric from the same time period and set on the diagonal. Everything was hand stitched, sometimes using a one-eighth inch seam because the stars varied in size.
The borders and bindings are recent reproduction prints, mitered at the corners. I found the backing at a yard sale in Colorado in 2008, just before starting on this quilt. This helped me combine the best of old and new.
