I bookmarked the “World’s Wonder” quilt when I got the Nebraska Quilts & Quiltmakers, edited by Patricia Cox Crews and Ronald C. Naugle. I was drawn to the double pinks in the quilt. I would like to image that Armina stitched some of the stars traveling through Iowa.
Winnifred Petersen and I attended many Iowa Quilters Guild programs. I drove around the state while Winnifred basted her tiny hexagons.
The fabric makers certainly helped by producing many chocolate and cherry colored fabrics. The fun part came in selecting the fabrics for the five rows.
I English Paper-Pieced the hexagons and triangles. Each motif has 37 hexagons and the 73 triangles.
There are many stars in the quilt. After being told the quilt was a part of the AQSG “Star Study” quilting friends immediately saw the stars. The triangles around each hexagon form a star and also the large white triangles make bigger stars.
