The first thing that attracted me to this collection of basket blocks were the beautiful antique fabrics that were used in the blocks. The blocks contain a wonderful mix of purples, madders and stripes. At first glance each block appears to be made from the same fabric, but, upon closer inspection, a few of the blocks contain different fabrics in the same colorway that were carefully matched to achieve a pleasing design.
I was also drawn to the variety of striped fabrics used in many of the blocks. They range from narrow stripes carefully arranged in the same direction to larger border stripes that were cut up and sewn without any particular placement. I enjoyed searching for just the right fabrics and stripes to achieve that “make do” look of the original blocks. The blocks were placed in a simple setting to showcase the fabrics used for this quilt.
