AQSG stands as one of the oldest and largest member organizations dedicated to quilt related studies in the world.

Member support has helped AQSG develop a responsible and accurate body of information about quilts and their makers.

AQSG funds are directed towards several projects that support our mission, including support for research paper presentations at Seminar, research and publication grants, scholarships for researchers who wish to attend our annual Seminar, and the ongoing circulation of our scholarly publications.

There are several ways to bring your research to others:

Uncoverings: The Research Papers of the American Quilt Study Group

Since 1980, Uncoverings has been the foremost authority in quilt research. This interdisciplinary volume represents AQSG's mission: to build an accurate, well-respected body of quilt-related research. Uncoverings is the foundation of most quilt research being published today. Be a part of this unique, highly respected publication.

If your paper is selected, you will be invited to make a presentation of your research at an AQSG Seminar. This is a unique opportunity to share your work with others who are passionate about quilts and to participate in a weekend conference devoted to the study of quilts.

Blanket Statements is the AQSG quarterly publication. Issues contain at least one research article, AQSG information, research notes and queries, quilt world news, and places to go. All members receive Blanket Statements as a member benefit and may choose to receive color copies by e-mail or black and white copies by mail.

Authors of new articles are always encouraged to submit their work. Refer to the guidelines and tips for writing an article. Please consult our policies for submitting articles.

Call for Panel Paper Abstracts

AQSG will hold a panel paper session at the 2021 Annual Seminar, where participants can present their quilt-related research to fellow Seminar participants.  Up to two 90-minute panels will be added to the annual Seminar program, each consisting of three 30-minute, peer-reviewed scholarly presentations (20 minutes for presentation, 10 minutes for Q&A.)  For many academic disciplines, paper sessions are an important conference component, and are often the “norm” for disseminating research findings.

Call for Poster Abstracts

AQSG will again hold a poster session at the 2021 Annual Seminar, where members can present their quilt-related research to fellow Seminar participants.  A poster presentation is a focused display of a research question, literature review, research methods, and results.  The AQSG poster session hosts multiple research presentations at the same time, and encourages conversation between presenter and audience in a relaxed, salon format.  For many academic disciplines, poster sessions are an important conference component as many people can share their research in one time slot with interested attendees.

The AQSG Research and Publication Mentoring Program is a service provided to researchers preparing papers based on original research for oral presentation and publication in AQSG’s research journal Uncoverings, or for submission to its quarterly newsletter Blanket Statements. The purpose is to match AQSG members conducting research projects, preparing research papers for publication, or preparing oral presentations, with members who have expertise in the researcher’s field of inquiry, in publishing research work, and/or in giving oral presentations.
