What is a Study Center?

Study Centers are an opportunity to learn from other members. Offered in person and virtually since 2020, these member-led sessions focus on a specific topic, which in some cases, is the beginning of a larger research project.

AQSG member Virginia Vis shared her research on Baltimore Album quilts during a Study Center at an annual Seminar. Says Vis, "While my intention was to present the results of my research, exchange of information with other BAQ enthusiasts added to my knowledge. Many questions about the quilts remain to be answered, but it is hoped participants of my study center went away with more tools to appreciate and understand the genre." are an opportunity to learn from other members. What is Seminar?

AQSG's feature event is our annual Seminar. Held in a different location every year, Seminar brings quilt enthusiasts and scholars together for a weekend of quilts and quilt study. In addition to the presentation of research papers chosen for publication in Uncoverings, Seminar offers pre-conference tours of museums and private collections, study centers, engaging speakers, panel presentations, and a poster session. Other events include live and silent auctions of quilts and other treasures; show-and-tell of remarkable quilts, textiles, and related items; an on-site special quilt exhibition; and the sale of vintage quilts and textiles by member dealers from across the country.
