Friends of the Needle Meeting
Friends of the Needle is a group of AQSG members who are working to raise awareness of the importance of hand quilting in the study of quilt and textile history. By documenting the styles, patterns and techniques utilized, we hope to assist historians, scholars, curators, photographers and anyone pursuing the study of quilt history with a broader understanding of this often neglected aspect of quilt history.

Exhibit - The New York Quilt Style
New York is home to exceptional 19th century quilts, many of which exhibit unique styles and patterns. Often popular for only a generation, these patterns and styles appear in specific areas and then disappear. After the Civil War, advancements in communications, transportation, and publications shrunk the country and made it easier and faster to spread ideas, styles, and patterns. Quilt patterns across the country became more homogenized and regional distinctions less common. This exhibit explores some of these regional patterns and other unique characteristics that make 19th century New York quilts special.
