Application Steps and Timeline
2018 Quilt Study
January 2, 2017 - May 1, 2017: Early Reservations Accepted.
Participant Application and Release (Form 1): This form is the first step to hold a place in the 2018 Quilt Study. It includes participant identification(s) and release statement(s) that allow the created study quilt and accompanying information to be used for exhibits and publications by AQSG and AQSG sponsored organizations. This form must be completed by each member of a group project.
Early reservations for the quilt study will be accepted in the order of date sent, either by email date or USPS postmark. Participants have until May 1, 2017 to complete their application by completing Form 2 and submitting a high resolution image. See below.

Owner Permission to Use Inspiration Quilt and Image (Form 2): Participants use this form to get permission from the legal owner of the solid color quilt, 1800 to 2000 or quilt related textile to use it and an image as part of the AQSG Quilt Study, including the use of images in exhibits or publications. The owner may be an individual or an institution such as a museum.
Image of Inspiration Quilt: The image of the inspiration quilt or quilt-related textile will be used on the AQSG exhibit card and may be included in other publications that result from the 2018 Quilt Study. Please submit a high resolution image of the entire textile, well lighted and viewed straight-on. Low resolution “thumbnail” photos from websites are not acceptable.
Obtaining museum permission and an image can be time consuming and can affect your ability to use a particular solid color quilt, 1800 to 2000. If you are selecting a museum quilt you should initiate the permission request as soon as the solid color quilt, 1800 to 2000 you plan to use has been selected.
If a museum has its own Museum Permission to Use form, it can be accepted, subject to review and approval of the Study Quilt Committee.
May 1, 2017: Complete applications due for early reservation holders.
May 1, 2017 to March 1, 2018: Rolling Applications accepted.
After May 1, 2017, participants will be accepted “first come, first serve”, based on receipt of the complete application package.
Application packages from all interested AQSG members will continue to be accepted until March 1, 2018 or until a maximum of 50 participants have submitted complete application packages. Complete application packages must be postmarked or e-mailed no later than March 1, 2018.
Complete the Written Statement
June 1, 2018: Written Statement Form (Form 3) due. This form accompanies the participant’s Written Statement and describes requirements for the Written Statement. The written statement must be provided as a Word compatible document either as an email attachment or on a disk sent through the regular mail. The Written Statement summarizes the participant’s study experience translating the solid color quilt, 1800 to 2000 to their study quilt and what was learned in the process. The statement will be reproduced on the AQSG Exhibit card that will accompany the quilt at all exhibits and may be used in publications.
